Quickfacts:
- Aimed at
- Stabilizing 200 linear feet of intermittent stream and 0.1 acres of wetland.
- Promoting infiltration and enhancing aquatic habitat.
- Establishing resilient native vegetation in the riparian corridor.
- Preventing structural damage from local storm flooding.
- Reducing downstream flooding that damages structures in Gold Park.
- The Project area is impacted by urban development, has little riparian vegetation, and, in parts, is more like an open ditch than a stream.
August 2024 to August 2026
A green infrastructure design process conducted during 2023 and 2024 identified an unnamed tributary that flows under Odie Street and through several Odie Street residential lots which needed stabilization. The stabilization, aimed at being finished in August of 2026, will address issues like lack of riparian vegetation, channelization, and erosion, while improving drainage and reducing nuisance flooding. By reducing peak flows, the project will help lower flood risk downstream. Partners and homeowners will be involved in the design, with opportunities for public engagement. This project aims to improve water quality, reduce flood risk, and enhance neighborhood beauty and habitat diversity.
