The Chatham County Comprehensive Conservation Plan presents a strategic, multi-objective approach to natural resource conservation and management. It synthesizes the best-available science, environmental and land use data, and local and regional planning efforts. The Plan identifies and describes the county’s important natural resources, and recommends strategies to guide the protection of a sustaining network of natural areas, surface waters, working lands, and wildlife corridors. It should serve as an educational tool and guide for development review and future land use decisions in the county. It can also support funding for further conservation planning and conservation projects.
The plan was completed on behalf of the Chatham Conservation Partnership, which is made up of federal, state, and local governments, non-profits, business owners, farmers, and developers who work to build awareness of, protect, and act as stewards of Chatham County’s natural resources.
The Piedmont Conservation Council and the Triangle Land Conservancy applied for and managed the funding for the plan, which was received from private foundation and state and national grants.
