2016 – 2018
The Park Shopping Center in Siler City, Chatham County, NC, faces chronic flooding due to extensive impervious surfaces, hilly terrain, and poor stormwater management. A piped tributary of Loves Creek, Tributary 2, flows beneath the shopping center, contributing to water quality and habitat issues in the impaired Loves Creek watershed. To address these concerns, the Loves Creek Watershed Stewards, in collaboration with local and state partners, initiated a study aimed at improving water quality, reducing flooding, and enhancing the area’s potential for recreational and business redevelopment.
